I was invited to a baby shower for all the Jewish Babies born in the last two years. What should I make for them?
I naturally want to go straight into making tiny hair clips, ruffle butt bottoms and fuzzy hats, but those are well outside my focus on mental wellness.
What do I know about parenting little ones that is stressful? How can art lessen that stress? What I know for sure:
1) parents of young babes are TIRED.
2) young babes need a lot of entertaining (however, see #1)
3) young babes turn parents into Sherpas…shlepping toys, diapers and snacks etc. in giant diaper bags…yet somehow you still forget things (see #1 again).
I cannot give sleep, but I could “snuggle” some coffee mugs, caffeinated sodas, or melatonin bottles?
I could make some sleep masks for that rare and desperately needed nap?
What about rattles or matching and stacking games to keep the babes busy?
Anything I make the kiddos is likely to only entertain them for 5 minutes, but a desperate (and tired) parent’s mental health can benefit greatly from only 5 minutes of R&R!
Now, whose gonna entertain my three year old while I make it all?
Always imagining, listening to your feedback, and working late into the night…
Janessa
