Since I was a little girl, I have turned things into new things…
I once took an old metal vaccuum hose, put a rope through it and hung it like a trapeze in a tree (I had little oversight being my parents owned a mom & pop resort).
I cut flowers out of a Kleenex box and glued them on a piece of paper and I wrote a short poem to give to my mom.
I hammered holes into like one hundred beer bottle caps (I lived above my parent’s bar), strung them together, and made my own beer bottle top, beaded curtain.
I was…different. Still am.
I was like a little poetic, artistic, MacGyver opening doors with just a match and a paperclip.
I still remember getting my first tool kit after college from my grandpa and imagining the possibilities.
Now, I drive my husband crazy with all of my ideas and random items I save for the possibilities they hold.
Plastic containers, yes!
Glass jars, yes!
So…many…boxes.
I once gave him a PowerPoint on why we should build an indoor pool. He didn’t love it but he was amused.
Since leaving my career, i have more time to light that side of my brain on fire (as my husband shudders).
While these skills aren’t going to pay the bills (more shuddering), I hope they will converge at the right time and place to create something that has meaning for people…that lifts them up and brings them together.
In honor of small, weird, me, who was upcycling before that was a thing, I am now upcycling slap bracelets.
I remove the icky plastic and crochet beautiful patterns around them to be worn as a bracelet AND used as a fidget for my fidgety friends out there….there are lots of you! They even have matching rings 😉
I also save all my yarn scraps to be used for stuffing in other projects.
My goal?
To get to zero waste with Splendy Life.
I love to be green..and I lost that peice of me too, while momming and working.
What have you turned into something else?
I really wanna know!
